Check for a hidden leak
The water meter test
If you have a water meter, this five-minute check tells you whether water is escaping.
- Turn off every tap and water appliance. Make sure the washing machine, dishwasher and toilets are not filling.
- Read the meter. Take a photo of the numbers and note the time.
- Wait 30 minutes without using any water.
- Read the meter again. If the numbers have moved, water is escaping somewhere.
- WhatsApp us both photos. We can tell you whether it looks like a leak inside the house or on the supply pipe outside.
Good to know
Signs you have a leak
The obvious ones
Drips from a tap, water around the base of the toilet, a damp cupboard under the sink, or an overflow pipe dripping outside. These are usually a washer, a seal, a fill valve or a hose.
The hidden ones
Brown stains on a ceiling, bubbling paint, a musty smell, a boiler that keeps losing pressure, or a water bill that has jumped. These mean water is escaping somewhere you cannot see.
How we find it
We isolate sections of the system and check the joints, valves and fittings in turn. For leaks buried in a concrete floor, we will tell you honestly if a specialist leak-detection company is the better option.

Common questions
FAQ
How much does it cost to fix a leak in Chichester?
Most small leaks cost £65–£85, for example a dripping tap or a flexi hose. A shower valve is £145 and a major emergency leak starts from £140. There is no callout charge.
Is a dripping tap worth fixing?
Yes. A constant drip wastes water, stains basins and usually gets worse. A new washer or cartridge is £65.
Water is coming through my ceiling. What do I do?
Turn off the stopcock, switch off the electrics in that area if it is safe, and call us. It is treated as an emergency.
Do you use thermal cameras for leak detection?
We trace most leaks by isolating sections and checking fittings. For leaks buried in concrete floors, we will tell you honestly if a specialist leak-detection company is the better option.
Can you fix a leak the same day?
Usually. Most leaks are repaired on the first visit, and we carry common washers, valves and hoses.
